Social Cinema

‘SOCIAL CINEMA’ launched on the 24th February 2016 with a world class programme of online cinema screenings. It ran as the first event of OG's South East Cultural Centre’s FORTNIGHTS programme.  The purpose of the South East Cultural Centre was to test the potentials of a 'regional arts centre'. Operating online in an interactive setting the Social Cinema programme made leading cultural film accessible to people who may not be in a position to access or attend live events held in the cultural capitals, arts centres, theatres or cinemas.

From February to May 2016,  'SOCIAL CINEMA' screened films from Oscar nominated director Hanna Polak, internationally renowned artists Brian Maguire and Ai Weiwei, as well as films highlighting the current Syrian refugee crises and some home-grown sensations such as The Pipe.

Once a fortnight on a Wednesday at 7pm, people across the South East were invited to log into the interactive viewing room, located on the South East Cultural Centre’s website.  There they were able to view the film and participate in discussion as everyone experienced the film screenings together.

Later that year, a curated selection of the films then traveled to be screened in Gorey School of Art as part of PERIPHERIES 2016.
